MC Lyte’s Hip Hop Sisters Foundation Dillard University #EducateOurMen 2019 Graduate Deven Berry!

Deven is from Las Vegas, NV. He was awarded the #EducateOurMen scholarship in 2014 on the red carpet of The Soul Train Music Awards!

In his freshman year, Deven began to struggle academically, risking the loss of his scholarship. However, with the help and support of the foundation, Deven attended summer school and successfully raised his GPA, maintaining his scholarship eligibility. Since then, Deven has become RELENTLESS in his pursuit of excellence.

Matriculation Accomplishments
Founded “Bleu Scientists” Dillard University’s Computer Science Club

Achieved longtime goal of receiving a red belt in Martial Arts: Dillard University White Tiger Christian Martial Arts

Became a charter member of the “National Society of Black Engineers”

Google “Hack-a-thon”

Attended various conferences and educational events including “National Society of Black Engineers,” Black Enterprise “BE Smart Hack-a-thon (2015-2018),”Google Tech Talks”

Earned and maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA

Volunteered over 135 hours
Verizon Innovative Learning for Minority Males · Student Mentor

Department of the Navy Guest speaker and student panelist for Naval Systems Operational Awareness Workshop for Minority Students

Completed degree in four years (only one other student accomplished this out of 30 who started the degree program together)

Completed 134 credit hours of classes to earn Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics

Secured the role of “Computer Scientist” for Naval Sea Systems Command
